Project Portfolio
At Brownlee Cale, we work with clients worldwide to deliver projects that improve safety, strengthen systems, and unlock value across the mining life cycle. Our consultancy combines technical depth with practical application, ensuring that every engagement delivers measurable outcomes.

India: Feasibility Study and Project Development
Brownlee Cale provided the technical team to deliver a comprehensive feasibility study and detailed project report for a mechanised bord and pillar operation. The work centred on applying best-in-class practices to improve safety, modernising mine design, and assessing geological and operational risks. This significantly advanced the client’s understanding of the asset and supported informed decision-making. The project has since progressed to the construction tendering stage, with Brownlee Cale continuing to provide advisory support.

Poland: Major Hazard Audit and Intervention
Brownlee Cale undertook a critical control review and intervention programme across three Polish underground coal mines, focused on reducing potential loss scenarios linked to major mining hazards. The work combined root-cause analysis of past events, on-site observations and personnel interviews covering technical, operational and organisational practices. We evaluated the application and effectiveness of engineering risk controls, and advised on acceptable levels of risk tolerance by comparing local practices with proven global best practice. This approach provided the client with clear insight and actionable recommendations to strengthen hazard management and improve overall safety performance.

UK: Supervisor Competence Development for Deep Shaft Project
Brownlee Cale has supported Redpath Deilmann UK since their inception, as they and their partners deliver the world’s deepest mechanically excavated mine shafts — the first deep mine shafts to be sunk in the UK since the 1980s. Our work focused on supervisors in both mining and mechanical & electrical disciplines, a group identified as critical to creating a safe workplace and embedding a ‘can do’ culture where safety and operational performance are inseparable. By aligning competence development with a safety-first mindset and clear risk tolerance, we strengthened hazard control and fostered compliant, performance-driven working practices. This collaboration is helping to underpin the successful delivery of one of the most ambitious mining projects in recent UK history.
